Getting ready for the Talk stage
The Talk stage is the first part of our conciliation process where we talk to you and ACC.
The Conciliator will contact you about a week prior to the meeting. It might help if you have a think about the problem but there is no need for you to do anything else before this first phone call.
One of the things that the conciliator will do is talk about getting you ready for the meeting stage. They will check that they have the most important documents and that they understand your perspective. You can also raise cultural, accessibility and language requirements with the conciliator at this time.
Because our process is confidential, your
discussion with the conciliator will not be passed on to ACC. Read more about the Talk stage.
Getting ready for the Meeting stage
The Meeting stage is the central part of our conciliation process. After speaking with the conciliator, it is important that you take the time to think about what you want to explain to ACC including what you feel, the important issues to you and why they are important. You’ll also need to think about how the problems might be solved including explaining to ACC what your expectations and goals are. You will also need to be prepared to listen to how ACC sees things too.
Our conciliation process is different from a review or a court process because the Conciliator’s role is to help you and ACC find the solution rather than force an outcome on you and ACC. This means you do not need to convince the Conciliator about anything.
It is also important that you send any important information to ACC and the Conciliator ahead of the meeting (for example a new medical report) and you will also need to make sure you have any available supporting documents ready for discussion at the meeting.
